Discovering the wild beauty of the Aeolian Islands by boat
There are places where time seems to stand still, where the sea gently brushes ancient shores and the mountains still breathe, slowly and deeply. This private boat tour takes you there—into the most authentic and untamed heart of the Aeolian Islands, where volcanic cliffs plunge into the blue and millenary stories echo among the rocks.
Aboard our elegant vintage boat, we’ll set off on an intimate and inspiring journey along the southern coast of Lipari and around the island of Vulcano. A day designed for those who seek beauty, peace, and wonder. Between crystal-clear waters, hidden coves, and places that whisper of ancient civilizations, you’ll experience an encounter with nature, history, and poetry. |
Itinerary
Departure is from Lipari or Vulcano, depending on where you are staying—every detail is tailored for your comfort. We begin with a gentle cruise along the southern coast of Lipari, passing white-washed houses and dramatic cliffs that fall sheer into the sea.
We’ll glide past Capistello, a quiet bay that hides the silent memory of an ancient Roman shipwreck beneath its waters—a story resting on the seabed. At Punta Crepazza, the view suddenly opens to a dramatic panorama: the Faraglioni rise majestically, Praia Vinci sparkles with light, and the smoking crater of Vulcano looms in the distance.
A refreshing swim in the turquoise waters of Praia Vinci sets the mood for the day, before approaching the mighty sea stacks for a closer look. Here, the scenery becomes almost surreal—high, vertical rocks that rise from the sea like timeless sentinels.
We then reach the Arch of Angels, a natural stone arch carved by the wind and sea. Crossing the channel to Vulcano, the landscape becomes darker and more primal: the lava rocks, deep cobalt waters, and the scent of minerals in the air create a powerful contrast.
We pause at Cala Formaggio or Cala Minico, depending on sea conditions—two wild and intimate coves where silence and nature embrace. Continuing along the coast, we approach the Venus Pools, a series of clear rock basins, and the imposing Grotta del Cavallo, echoing with sea sounds. This stretch of coastline is a masterpiece of volcanic geology, with layered cliffs, arches, and caves sculpted by millennia of eruptions and waves.
Due to high traffic, we may not always stop at the Venus Pools, but the journey continues with other marvels: the Grotta Abate, remote and untamed, and then, at the southern tip of Vulcano, the Gelso Lighthouse, standing guard near a peaceful village.
If you wish to stop for lunch, we recommend two seaside restaurants here: Da Pina or La Spiaggia dell’Asino, both immersed in a relaxed and authentic atmosphere.
We then sail along the island’s eastern coast, where we’ll pass Cannitello, a rugged and wild bay, and towering black cliffs that lead us toward the Sirenetta statue, beneath the active crater of La Fossa. Nearby, the underwater fumaroles create a magical scene: a gentle bubbling from the seabed, rich in sulphur, perfect for a refreshing and mineral-rich swim.
We end our tour along the shores of Vulcanello, where the landscape becomes softer and the sea calms—bringing us back to Lipari or Vulcano, depending on our departure point, with a heart full of wonder and a soul soothed by the rhythm of the waves.
